
Hispanic Heritage Month is a time of celebration and reflection—a moment to honor the cultural mosaic that is Latino heritage. Join us in commemorating the many creative contributions of Hispanic Americans in our community and our nation. From historic, national newspaper articles to contemporary Latino authors, Yakima Valley Libraries houses many stories that illuminate the vibrant tapestry of Hispanic culture. Read the following list of resources for recommendations on ways to celebrate with us in learning the narratives of Latino artists, book/film characters, and community members. We also invite you to participate in the following programs and activities.
PROGRAMS:
American Campesino: Poetry Reading and Reflections
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, join us for an online poetry reading and talk with Chicano educator, poet, and activist, Rubén Rangel. His poetry collection, entitled “American Campesino,” interweaves both English and Spanish, and was written during the height of Covid-19 lockdown, with a focus on working class rights, farmworkers, and sparking radical change.

Latinx Superheroes
Visit Sunnyside Library and Yakima Central Library for a fascinating, media-rich presentation of the Latinx superheroes in comics films, television, and literature. The presentation and an interactive discussion will be facilitated by Olivia Hernandez, an English instructor at Yakima Valley College.
