    2025 SUMMER EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

    From a mini concert series at Yakima Central Library to science demonstrations with OMSI to a visit from the Reptile Lady, we have a variety of exciting activities planned for the community this summer! Kids, teens, adults, and families, join us for some entertaining events during the Summer Reading Program. See the complete list of events outlined below.

    Learn to Dance Series

    Adults 19+ are invited to join us for dance classes at Terrace Heights Civic Center this summer. The lessons are beginner-friendly and will be instructed by talented, local dance professionals. Please dress comfortably.

    Cardboardpalooza!

    Calling all engineers and creatives, come build fun projects and creations with cardboard using Makedo construction tools! Makedo is a series of safe cardboard construction tools purposely designed for kids to imagine and build the world they want to see. All ages are welcome! Children under 8 require their caregiver’s help.

    Sounds of the Valley

    Join us as we proudly continue our exciting mini concert series, “Sounds of the Valley,” at the Yakima Central Library’s community space!     Tiny Diamond Painting

    OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science & Industry)

    Adventure alongside incredible science demonstrations presented by educators from the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry. Join us for three interactive and informative events outlined below!


    Cowabunga Chemistry (grades K-5))
    Students perform amazing chemical reactions as they measure and mix ingredients and discover substances with strange and surprising properties: polymers. Make two different slimy concoctions for big-time chemistry fun.

    Identity (grades 2-8)
    What makes you, you? Students use hands-on science to extract their own DNA and real forensic techniques to examine their own unique fingerprints.

    As they piece together the evidence of a crime scene, students see firsthand how fingerprints, footprints and fibers can help catch a criminal.

    Wonderglobe: The Playful Planet

    Teacher-turned-toymaker Rick Hartman transforms an ordinary globe into wondrous playthings from around the world. Toys and tales spring to life in this mesmerizing mixture of storytelling, invention and visual comedy performed by one of the Northwest’s leading educational entertainers. Fun for all ages!

    Anthropod Exhibit

    Come and check out the arthropod (BUG) exhibit at the library and get to know a cool collection of creepy crawlies. You will learn about exoskeletons, defense mechanisms, and more. Some arthropods can even be held! Best for ages 6+.
